Child Icon tool introduced by japan Airlines to avoid screaming infants onboard!

  • 14 October 2019

Japan Airlines has come up with an innovative idea by introducing a ‘child icon’ tool to enhance customer’s flight experience. With the help of this new feature, while booking the flight tickets, passengers can see where the young children between 8 days to the age of 2 will be seated during their flight. This child icon will allow them to choose their seats accordingly as per their personal preferences.

Also, communicated by the airlines that customers might face little flaws in the reservation system, which may not allow the display of child icons properly. However, this situation will only appear if there is a change of aircraft before the flight or the seat selection is not done through the Japan Airlines website.

Few other airlines have introduced similar means to ensure that passengers are not being seated near younger kids. A “quiet zone” has been introduced by AirAsia X for all its flights in 2017, setting aside eight rows that are exclusively meant for fliers above age 10. Likewise, budget Indian carrier IndiGo initiated a similar kind of arrangement in 2016 by introducing “quiet zones” which is its premium extra legroom zones reserved for passengers above age 12.

Some other major airlines like Air New Zealand and Qantas provide bassinets meant for infants, which are displayed on seating plans for selected flights. This arrangement helps passengers traveling with infants select the appropriate seats, which further helps the fellow passengers to opt for seats away from such seats to avoid any kind of airplane travel annoyances.
